Universal 3D
The Universal 3D Format (U3D) was developed
by the 3D Industry Forum (3DIF) and has become a common
standard for sharing interactive 3D content. The first
version of the U3D open format was released with a sample
player and run-time libraries to support adoption and
implementation. Key features now include streaming and
compression, animation and the capability for end users
to begin interacting with the content before the entire
file is downloaded to its destination.
Adobe Systems has announced support for
the Universal 3D (U3D) format in Acrobat 7.0 software
and Adobe PDF. Developed by Intel and the 3D Industry
Forum, the U3D specification marks a significant step
toward turning 3D graphics into the next ubiquitous
office media.
3Dsolve is a founding member of the 3DIF
and 3Dsolve CEO Richard Boyd serves on the 3DIF board
of directors. 3Dsolve intends to fully support U3D within
its simulation learning products at the earliest possible
opportunity.
